Who we are?

 

The institution working to obtain this title is Caceres 2016 Consortium, which responsabilities are strategy, planning and development of the bid in Spain and Europe. The Caceres 2016 Consortium is integrated by the Junta de Extremadura (Regional Government of Extremadura), City Council of Caceres and institutions and business in Caceres like Caja de Extremadura, Caja Badajoz, Universidad de Extremadura, Fundación Academia Europea de Yuste and Cámara de Comercio de Cáceres.

The main objective of the Consortium is to make Caceres the bid selected by the European Comission to be European Capital of Culture in 2016.

The specific purposes of the Caceres 2016 Consortium are:

- Make Culture the strategic centre of the social and economic development of the city of Caceres;
- Promote Caceres as a cultural contents production factory;
- Dynamize the historic heritage of the city;
- Boost Extremadura as a singular cultural space;
- Turn Caceres into a culture container with international dimension, coming back to the cultural city Caceres used to be.

Caceres 2016 has to design a European dimension cultural project that underline the European common cultural trends, promoting European artists exchange and helping the establishment of a permanent cultural cooperation. All those projects must involve population and promote all sectors participation.

As a World Heritage Site the city offers a great scenario for cultural events. The history of the city is a good example of Spanish history or even European history: mixing, important cultural tradition, opening.
